Join me this Saturday night at Soul Tree in Lafayette for an evening of chanting in community. It is a powerful practice made all the sweeter by music, more powerful by ancient mantras, more healing by practicing in a safe group setting. How can medicine feel so good?
I am joined this month by Noah Rouse Wilson IV on sitar and dilruba, Susanna Minichiello on vocals and harmonium, Paul Rakestraw on bass, and Stephen Bross on tablas. Everyone's voice becomes a part of the one choir. This month we will be chanting to the Divine Feminine in her three forms of grace: Durga as Divine Protection, Lakshmi as Divine Nourishment, and Saraswati as Divine Wisdom. If you have never chanted before please don't let that stop you from giving it a try. All are warmly welcomed into this space. You can chant or not, sit quietly, dance joyfully, cry. You can bring your joy, your sorrow, your whole being. To register through the Soul Tree website click HERE.Marma Restore for Body & Soul
Friday October 12th at 7:00pm
Marmas are vital energy points on the body where physical and subtle tensions can collect. Originating in the martial arts tradition in India, they comprise a powerful form of therapy in the healing science of Ayurveda.
Marma points represent junctions on all levels. They are points where soft tissue meets bones, where vessels and tendons and other bodily structures intersect. They are also the place where the physical meets the subtle, where body meets consciousness. They can be treated by practitioners through touch, heat, needling, and in other ways. Marma points can also be catalysts of transformation and self-healing through self-massage, asana, pranayama, and the light of awareness.
Marma Restore begins with restorative poses held for extended periods of time, while activating through touch and awareness of specific marma points. Mira will weave her way through the room offering hands-on marma therapy. Participants will then be guided in pairs to give and receive a balancing marma sequence. The evening winds down in a long Shavasana, during which Mira shares a deeply relaxing ancient practice: Marma Nidra, a meditation on 18 marma points. Through balancing the marma points we experience a level of peace and well being that goes beyond the physical to restore the deep recesses of the soul.Mira Devi, LMT, CYT has studied marma therapy with Dr. Vasant Lad. She has been weaving the wisdom of Ayurveda into her life and private bodywork practice for the last twenty years.

Cold weather has arrived. Colorado winters can be dry cold and windy. All aggravating to Vata dosha. A steam added onto your Ayurvedic or Integrative massage is an amazing therapy. It induces a light sweat so it stimulates the flow of blood and lymph, and is therefore cleansing and clarifying. It warms you to the bones removing coldness from the bodymind. The heat allows the oils and herbs to absorb more easily into the tissue layers. Pranic channels open as well, so that the subtle forms of prana can reorganize in a more balanced and grounded way. You steam right on the table while a cool towel keeps your face and head from overheating. This and many other treatments well suited to the fall season can be foundHERE.
Thank you so much for reading, and I wish you a smooth transition into the fall and winter months.
