Ayurvedic Coaching and Bodymind Therapies
Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultations
Ayurvedic lifestyle sessions are a collaborative, empowering, and educational time to explore how the five elements come together in your inner and outer world. Food and dietary guidelines, kitchen spices, yoga asanas, pranayama, meditation, and sound healing may be integrated into an ongoing dialogue to help you find balance and clarity in your journey to enhanced well-being. Utilizing a slide show type presentation either in person or via zoom, let's explore the wonder of the five elements, discover your Ayurvedic type and how to stay balanced through the seasons, the gift of the 6 tastes, eating for your constitutional type, recipes to inspire you, breathing and mindfulness practices, chanting for stress reduction and mental focus, and so much more! Abhyanga ~ Ayurvedic Massage
The Ayurvedic oil massage, known as Abhyanga, pictured above, is at once detoxifying and nurturing. Organic herbal oils are chosen for your unique constitution. The oils and techniques ease muscular aches and pains and support the flow of blood, lymph, and prana. Special attention is paid to the head and face, as there are many energy points known as marma points in this region. Activating these points supports many bodily organs and systems and is especially calming to the nervous system. Abhyanga wrings out tensions and toxins while strengthening the muscles, enhancing the immune system, and grounding the mind. Ayurveda works with the five elements of earth, air, fire, water, and ether. These are connected to the five sense organs. So the use of oils, touch, essential oils, healing sounds, all work together to harmonize the body mind.
Nasya ~ Sinus Cleansing
Nasya is a cleansing treatment for the nose and sinuses in which oils are administered and sniffed deeply into the sinus cavities. This simple yet deeply detoxifying treatment moisturizes the nose and sinuses, reduces inflammation, cleanses and clears pathogens from the sinuses and head, nourishes the brain, and opens up all the pathways which carry the physical and subtle breath. A warm compress is first placed over the face to help open the sinuses. Herbal oil drops are then administered and marma points activated to further open the channels and balance the mind.
Marma Polarity Therapy ~ Energy Based Bodywork
A Marma Polarity treatment is an energy based form of bodywork which balances the subtle elements and energies of the body and mind. Each session is uniquely designed to address your current goals and concerns, and is enhanced with modern technology and essential oils. Marma points are vital energy points in Ayurveda which balance the subtle energies and support homeostasis. Polarity Therapy is an energy healing modality based on the five elements which was developed by Dr. Randolf Stone. These two modalities combine beautifully to profoundly balance the nervous and energy systems of the bodymind.
Swedana ~ Herbal Steam
Steam therapy is a wonderful addition to an Ayurvedic massage. The steam moisturizes the lungs and entire body while opening up the pores so that the oils and herbs can go in, and toxins can go out. The blood and lymph vessels dilate significantly, and toxins literally 'melt' so that they can be more easily mobilized for release. This treatment does wonders for the muscles. It reduces muscular aches and pains, speeds tissue repair, and increases range of motion, all while supporting your body's cleansing process. While you are steaming, a cold towel is placed over your head and face, as well as heart area, to keep your core areas from overheating. This keeps the nervous system settled and allows you to relax into the treatment more deeply. The body and mind feel light and clear, yet grounded and energized, after steam therapy.
Shirodhara ~ Mind Balance & Bliss
Shiro means head. Dhara means to flow. Shirodhara is the crown jewel of Ayurvedic therapies. It both cleanses and deeply balances the nervous system, senses, brain, and mind. During a Shirodhara treatment, herbal oil flows in a steady stream across the forehead and crown for 20-30 minutes. The oil stream is steady and constant, like a gentle fountain. It slowly moves side to side balancing the hemispheres and brainwaves and guiding the awareness deeply within. Subtle tensions and toxins are swept off the body, allowing the nervous system and energy system to re-organize into a more balanced, functional, and resilient state. Benefits are varied and profound: healthier sleep patterns, reduced stress, enhanced cognition, perception, vision, and intuition, more clarity and joy.
Seasonal Cleansing with Ayurveda ~ Pancha Karma ~ Home Cleanse
Just as we need to sometimes deep clean the oven, and de-clutter the drawers and closets, seasonal cleansing of the bodymind is a powerful way to reclaim the S P A C E within our psychophysiology. While one very thorough treatment and a day or two of eating light and wholesome food can have great benefits, there is a deeper, longer journey of cleansing in Ayurveda known as PANCHA KARMA. Pancha Karma, which means 'five actions', is a cleanse that can last anywhere from 7 to 21 days or longer, and involves a preparatory phase, a cleansing phase, and a re-entry phase. It is done under the supervision of a skilled clinician or Ayurvedic Vaidya (Doctor). I work with several Doctor's in the area in providing these bodywork therapies as well as educational support around this cleanse for BodyMindConsciousness.
